PURE SOUTH DINING Room

Pure South Dining has been an iconic Southbank restaurant since 2004. We have forged a reputation for offering a beautiful dining experience based on stunning produce from King Island, Flinders Island and Tasmania, connecting our dinners to our farmers.

Executive Chef David Hall and his team travel to the islands regularly to meet our farmers and fishermen, connecting with the land and the Tasmanian produce that inspires Pure South.

The Pure South Dining Room overlooks the Yarra River, Southbank and the Melbourne skyline through panoramic windows on the first floor; memories of our trips to the island adorn the wood-panelled walls, adding to the warmth of the produce.

Savour beautiful St Helens ‘Lease 65’ Oysters while sipping Champagne, Southern Rock Lobster, King Island Eye Fillet and Devonport White Fish also feature on our current menu, showcasing our most loved suppliers of the islands.

Take a tour of Tasmania with our six-course degustation menu with matching Tasmanian wines, or dine your way from our a la carte menu. Our team is on hand to help guide you through our extensive wine list to match the stunning produce with one of 200 bottles of wine from Tasmania and around the world.

Allow us to take you from Southbank to the Pure South.

Pure south dining room MENU

Executive Chef David Hall and our team are inspired by the fresh ingredients that arrive daily at our Southbank restaurant from farmers,
fisherman & artisan producers in Tasmania, King Island & Flinders Island.

Please excuse any last-minute changes to our menu; we rely on small farmers and small planes to deliver our fresh produce across the strait to Melbourne.

Southbank pre-theatre dining

Enjoy the finest Tasmanian produce with our carefully crafted four-course Pre-Theatre Menu. Conveniently located just a short stroll from the Arts Centre and Melbourne Theatre Company, Pure South Dining is the perfect spot for a meal before your show.

We understand the importance of a seamless pre-theatre experience. Pure South Dining offers reservations from 5 pm, ensuring you can relax and enjoy a delicious meal that perfectly complements your night at the theatre, all just a short walk to Melbourne’s cultural heart.

CHEF'S TOUR TASTING MENU

Our Chef’s Tour menu is a testament to our commitment to understanding and celebrating the stories behind our Tasmanian produce. Several times a year, our culinary team embarks on journeys to meet our farmers and fishermen in person. We fly to remote airstrips, landing on paddocks and coastal strips, to gain a deeper appreciation of the land and sea that provide our exceptional ingredients.

The Chef’s Tour Menu takes you on a culinary journey from the pristine waters of the Devonport Coast to the remote pastures of King Island. Expertly crafted by Executive Chef David Hall, this six-course menu showcases the finest seasonal produce from our dedicated Tasmanian suppliers. Each dish reflects the unique flavours and high quality of the ingredients, offering you the very best of Pure South Dining.

Elevate your dining experience by opting for our carefully curated wine pairings. Our sommelier has selected a range of exceptional wines from our favourite Tasmanian vineyards and vintage old-world varietals. Each glass is thoughtfully matched to complement and enhance the flavours of each course, ensuring a harmonious and memorable culinary experience.

TABLE D'HÔTE LUNCH

Pure South’s Table d’hôte lunch menu is available in The Dining Room from Wednesday to Friday. Indulge in the finest produce sourced directly from King Island, Flinders Island and Tasmania, known for their pristine waters and fertile lands. Our menu showcases the diversity and excellence of Tasmanian produce, creating a memorable midweek Southbank lunch outing.

beverage list

Our beverage list is a journey of universal flavours mirroring the personality of respected vineyard sites.

We have carefully curated an eclectic selection of beverages from the finest small, large and artisan producers from both the ‘old and the new world’; those committed to producing the most premium wine, beer, and spirits, including some notable
award-winning drops.

A large portion of our list pays homage to the fabulous wine regions of Tasmania, renowned for the most elegant cool climate wine styles. The climate and soils of Tasmania combine to create ideal growing conditions for developing naturally elegant, intensely flavoured and aromatic wines, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir the region’s most renowned varieties; you will see there is a shift in focus of our list towards these two styles.
