Rutherglen Winemakers Lunch
Sunday March 1st, 2015
Rutherglen is coming to Melbourne.
Well, Rutherglen’s best wines are. The vines of the Rutherglen region were planted over 150 years ago.
Their history is the envy of many other wine regions in Australia, and there are 5th & 6th generation families working the same vineyards on the same land.
Rutherglen has a global reputation for fortified wines and robust reds, and their table wines which have been winning trophies since the 1970s, are getting better still, and growing in stature and respect.
This March, as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, the Winemakers of Rutherglen are choosing a list of their best wines for Pure South’s chef Ashley Davis to match a 4 course Sunday lunch menu. Riedel are also adding to the experience by presenting a sensory tasting of the wines; and pouring everything into the right glassware.
I don’t know how they will make a ‘short’ list of the world-renowned wines of Rutherglen. Too hard. There will be so many super wines left out; I can’t wait to see the short list, which will be confirmed at the end of January.
